- Create a plan for your legacy statement Specific goals form the basis of your plan for creating The Gift as a lasting legacy. Create a Statement of Intention that includes some or all of the following:
- Why This Gift?
- Who Are Your Readers?
- Who You are;
- Core Values and Beliefs;
- Lessons from Your Life;
- Regrets or Apologies;
- Hopes for the Future;
- Learn how to mine the gems of your personal history exercises designed to bring to mind significant memories, thoughts and principles that have played a role in your life. Some will be easy to recall, but many deep-seated beliefs and attitudes are hidden or deeply stored. They may have helped form your personality, or perhaps came into play when key life decisions were made.
- Experiment with easy writing techniques The power of storytelling to inform; illustrate; and imprint (on memory); introduction to the clustering method of memory recall; writing first drafts; polishing, finishing and self-publishing techniques and resources.
- Connect with others… Working in groups enables you to pool ideas, share with and learn from others and create lasting connections. Form your own group to continue working together to write, edit and proofread your manuscripts. Make lasting friendships with others who share your goals.

LifeGems Writing Workshop Series
LifeGems Workshops are designed to help you to mine and record your own personal or family history, while learning specific writing techniques to develop your recollections into interesting, effective narratives. The workshops offer participants the added dimension of small-group dynamics, providing valuable opportunities for insight, cooperation and friendship.
You will learn how the elements of creative non-fiction writing are applied to memoir-writing to show character, develop dialogue and enhance the telling of your story using elements of surprise, suspense and setting.
Through easy, enjoyable exercises, you will learn effective techniques of memory recall. In-class writing exercises will assist you in transforming your memories into polished, entertaining reading that will last for many lifetimes. On-location workshops are available by request for your group or organization.
